Fundraising Challenges (May 2011)

Fundraising is one of the activities that community not for profit organisations, such as Southcare, often find difficult.  There are so many high profile charities that are able to afford campaigns that attract donations from the community and businesses. So it is always a challenge for smaller organisations to think of fundraisers that don’t need too much of an investment of money or time.

Having an Op Shop is one way to raise funds. Our Op Shop is managed by volunteers who sort, display and sell donated clothes and household items, which ensures most of the money can go straight into the bank. This is an ongoing source of revenue, that costs very little to acquire. Southcare’s Op Shop is small but very proud of the excellent quality of the products donated which are offered at very low prices. If you haven’t visited,  pop in one day!

In recent years Southcare has also been selling Entertainment Values™ Books which contain hundreds of discounts at Perth's most popular restaurants, best cafes, take away chains, sporting events, cinemas, accommodation and fun family attractions. These have proved to be a valuable source of funds, as the books sell themselves. If you usually get one and didn’t know that Southcare sells them, or have heard of them but not known where to get one, pop in and place your order at the reception desk. The new books come out in June,  so the sooner you place an order the better. More details about cost and benefits are available at the reception desk.

If you or your family have had help from Southcare, or you have been wondering where to get a book this is a great way that you can make a donation and get excellent value in return. The vouchers and discount cards are not only for restaurants in Perth. We had one client tell us how he received 20% off a jet boat ride in Queenstown, New Zealand – which on its own made the book worth having. And if you don’t feel that you could use an Entertainment Values™ Book, but would like to make a donation to Southcare, please contact Vicki McBeth.
