Mankara is entirely operated by friendly volunteers. It is set up as a small supermarket and stocked with most of the items you would find in a local store. The main difference is that it is run with one thing in mind – to sell groceries at the lowest possible prices to people in the community who are struggling to make ends meet. No credit card service is available.

From time to time manufacturers will make available products that are close to use-by date or which have had a change of packaging, at very low prices. Southcare in turn sells these as Super Specials. Local bakeries also generously donate day old bread which is available free during Southcare’s opening hours.

Mankara also makes it possible for the financial counsellor to provide emergency relief in the form of food vouchers. The Shop is open:
