Sensory Garden
51A Bickley Crescent is the location of Southcare's new day respite centre for aged people in the early stages of dementia.
A recent garden makeover by members of the Rotary Club of South Perth transformed the backyard into a sensory garden, where clients can experience the delights of nature through touch, smell, sight, sound and taste. There are bird-attracting plants, colourful borders, perfumed shrubs and plants, a water feature, wind chimes, a pergola and garden benches where clients can sit and enjoy the peace of the garden. A small lawn is just large enough to play a game of bocce.
A fair amount of spade work was needed, the President of the Rotary Club of South Perth, Mr Ross Sweeney thanked and congratulated members for their magnificent effort in effecting the transformation.
A combination of funds from the City of South Perth Community Funding program, Southcare and Rotary enabled $6500 to be spent on the project to create the sensory garden to be enjoyed by all clients and visitors.
