What is a Home Care Package (HCP)?

Home Care Packages are one of the ways in which senior Australians can receive affordable care services to assist them in their own homes. The packages are designed to support those who require more complex in-home aged care needs that go beyond what the Commonwealth Home Support Programme can provide. Home Care Packages offer a coordinated approach to the delivery of your in home care and can be tailored to suit your individual needs.
There are four levels of HCP support, and your level will be assessed by a professional assessor using a nationally consistent assessment framework. The four levels are:

  • Home Care Level 1 – basic care needs
  • Home Care Level 2 – low level care needs
  • Home Care Level 3 – intermediate care needs
  • Home Care Level 4 – high care needs

How much does a Home Care Package cost?

Your aged care fees and costs may be subsidised, but value for money is still important. At Southcare, we have a simple fee structure and are confident in our ability to provide you with quality home care. We also do not charge exit fees.

The table below shows the cost for services delivered by Southcare for HCP customers. If you already have a Home Care Package, call us and we can do a comparison to see if we can provide you with more hours of care. There are flexible service durations available and we do not operate time bands for service delivery – we endeavour to provide continuity of service time and care work to meet your preferences. The cost is inclusive of wages including travel time, mileage, training and development and other administration costs.

For Southcare to manage your care package, a package management fee will be charged to cover our fixed costs. This enables our finance team to manage package funds and raise invoices and statements; our clinical governance team to deliver high quality care and meet government regulatory standards; and our procurement team to get you the best possible prices for the services, equipment and products. The following table shows the upfront fees you will have to contribute (from your government subsidy allocation if you choose Southcare to manage your package).

The level of funding you will receive from the government will vary depending on the level of Home Care Package you have been allocated. In addition to your funding from the government, you may be required to contribute to the cost of your care through a top up fee depending on the amount of services required. This will vary from person to person and we will work with you to determine what works best for you. The following table shows the government subsidy contribution for each level of Home Care Package.
