Creativity comes easy for Jean
“If you think chocolate is addictive, you haven’t tried crocheting!” such are the wise words of Southcare Star Jean, a literal crochet and crafting queen!
Jean has made everything you see here in this photo – she paints, crochets, sews, knits, beads, felts, quilts, and draws.
She creates simply because she loves it and loves giving her creations away to her grand-children and charities in Africa that help children.
Starting her creative journey when she was 16 years old, and when we asked who taught her, she replied: “a book!”
“I have never had one lesson, I am completely self-taught,” she says.
“I really love it; I can never sit down and do nothing!” she laughs.
“My hands are always busy.”
Southcare’s hands are busy too when we visit Jean and her husband Jack for gardening services in line with their approved care needs.
Gardener Sam visits every month to keep the front verge and back garden safe and looking tidy, and of course has a chat and laugh while working too.
“Sam is great, and we love the energy he brings when he is here.
“Our independence is so important to us, and we love living here on this big block.
But parts of the garden are too big to manage properly now, so getting this help is wonderful,” Jean says.
“Plus, it gives me time to do more of what I love to do!”
