Join the team and celebrate our seniors everyday!
Celebrating our seniors happens everyday at Southcare and we are always on the lookout for more caring hands to help us do just that.
With Senior’s Week happening during 8-14 November we are reminded of the ever present need to provide appropriate care for our ageing population to help them live fulfilled and independent lives at home.
Chief Executive Officer Dr Nicky Howe said using our caring hands at Southcare happens in a number of ways.
“As an essential service, our team provides personal care inside people’s homes and helps facilitate social connections and independence in the community.
“We also have a strong group of operations and administrative staff, and a dedicated group of volunteers, and while not everyone works directly with our customers, everyone in some way or another helps our customers.
“Home is where the heart is, and we are always looking for people with golden hearts and caring hands to help us deliver on our promise of being a proactive carer, connector and contributor, particularly inside people’s homes,” Dr Howe said.
For the team at Southcare every week is Senior’s Week.
“Working in this industry has many rewards, immeasurable rewards as the work is rewarded with far, far more than just a pay check,” Dr Howe said.
“These are jobs where you can make a real difference to a person’s life every minute of every day. It takes special people to work in this industry and the rewards are equally as special, providing memories and connections that will stay with you a lifetime,” she said.
One of Southcare’s home care workers Sharon Dawson has worked in aged care since 2002 and said she has always enjoyed the company of older people.
“I started doing home help because I like helping people. In 2017, I decided to study for my Cert III in Individual Support – Aged Care to become a Community Support Worker and now I help customers do the jobs they can no longer do or I assist them to do their tasks while at the same time retaining their independence,” Sharon said.
“I find my work so rewarding, helping people feel good about themselves, knowing they have good food in their fridge, keeping them company by having a cuppa and a chat and just being there for them in whatever capacity they need.
“If I leave a customer’s home and they have a smile on their face, it makes me feel really happy too!,” she said.
As part of Senior’s Week, the message Southcare is sharing today and every day is: hands up if you have caring hands!
“Hands up if you want a hands-on job helping people! Hands up if you want to join a team with great culture, great customers, great flexibility and great opportunities! Hands up if you have a passion for people and commitment to excellent customer service! Hands up if your values align with ours!”
“And if that sounds like you, put your hand up and join Southcare, a variety of rewarding roles are available, particularly as Community Support Workers and Domestic Assistants who directly contribute to enhancing the lives of our customers.”
