Sometimes our caring hands hold power tools, screw drivers, wrenches or lightbulbs because staying independent at home requires ongoing home maintenance.

Say hello to Handyman Darren who visits Southcare customers every week doing a range of important jobs around the home like changing tap washers, replacing light bulbs and smoke alarm batteries, installing key safes, hanging picture frames and cleaning ceiling light shades, ceiling fans and air conditioning vents.

Some people call them the “boring jobs” but they are the “important jobs” that keep your home working the way it should,” Darren says.

For Southcare Star Jean, Darren is fixing her side gate’s hinges that have come loose from repeated use, which is not surprising as 91-year-old Jean has lived here since 1971.

“This is the third time I have visited to keep this fence in working order and feel like there might be more screws in it than wood!” Darren laughs.

“Having Darren come when I need him is a godsend,” Jean says.

“We all know how hard it is to get trades and to find someone I can trust and who is reliable and affordable really is wonderful,” she says.

Darren says he has visited about 100 Southcare customers since working as a contractor with us over the last two and half years.

“After the first visit, I often return time and time again. Doing these little jobs really makes a big difference and the relationships maintained along the way are just as good as the maintenance I do in their homes,” Darren says.

If you are assessed and approved for home maintenance services and would like to book Darren, reach out to your coordinator to get started. We will organise the quote on your behalf and if approved will book and confirm a time with you.
