What financial counselling does Southcare offer?

Free financial advice is available to anyone who needs help and is given in confidence by our trained and accredited Financial Counsellor. Your service will be caring, non-judgmental, discreet and private.

Need help with budgeting, bills, debt recovery or housing?  How about a hand to negotiate, advocate or appeal on your behalf?  We can do that too.  Just ask the team for a confidential appointment to get started.

Let our caring hands help with:

  • Advocacy: Feeling overwhelmed by your financial situation and having difficulty communicating effectively?  We can help with creditors to inform and uphold your rights with them on your behalf.
  • Appeals:  With the extended support of our entire Community Services team, we can help and support you appeal decisions that you may not agree with in relation to Homeswest or Centrelink.
  • Bankruptcy: We can help with information and options on bankruptcy or alternatives.
  • Bills:  Let us explore options with you and explain what you can do if you are unable to pay.
  • Budgeting: we can help develop a budget and improve your financial literacy if you are experiencing difficulties making ends meet.
  • Complaints: If you believe that you have been discriminated against because of your age, sex, race, pregnancy, marital status, and impairment, religious or political conviction, we can help support you and refer you to Community Legal Services.
  • Debt recovery: If you have received a letter of demand, summons, warrant of execution or judgement summons, we can explain the debt recovery process and assist with exploring an appropriate course of action and options.
  • Housing: If your bank or landlord is making your housing situation difficult, we can assist you with mortgage information and explain your rights and responsibilities with Homeswest and private residential tenancy issues.
  • Negotiations: If you are having financial problems with creditors in maintaining or arranging repayments on loans, mortgages, credit cards or other creditor accounts, we can negotiate on your behalf with your creditors to reach a manageable and amicable repayment agreement.
  • Referral: If you require a service that we are unable to provide, we can refer you to an appropriate service.
