The amazing work of aged care workers will be recognised throughout Australia on Wednesday, 7 August, on Aged Care Employee Day, and Southcare is calling on the community to join is in saying “thanks for caring!”

Southcare CEO Enda Fahy said carers wear many hats to help keep our older Australians happy and healthy.

“Aged care employees might be home care workers, nurses, chefs, cleaners, gardeners, shopping buddies, administration or social connection organisers and all play a key role in the lives of older people and their families, offering essential care that extends to physical care as well as emotional support and companionship.

“We celebrate our aged care employees everyday here at Southcare and we are calling on all in the community to say “thanks for caring” for this national day,” Enda said.

Every day, aged care employees perform their roles with immense dedication and compassion, often going above and beyond to ensure the well-being of our older community members.

“We often hear our customers saying they would be lost without our support and because of what we do to help them, they can choose to do what brings them joy,” Enda said.

“For many of our customers, our carers might be the only person they speak to in a day so in addition to providing essential services to keep our customers living independently at home, they also provide a welcome social connection too.

“We all have caring hands, and it doesn’t take much to say thank you or to show your appreciation.

“Please take a moment to acknowledge the quiet achievers and the superheroes who provide care with professionalism, compassion and dedication for our loved ones and give them the recognition they deserve,” Enda said.

Now in its sixth year, Aged Care Employee Day is a national day registered with awarenessdays.com. It acknowledges the more than 370,000 people who care for and support around 1.5 million older Australians who receive aged care services.
