An open letter from our CEO: A simple thank you can mean the world this Aged Care Employee Day

Every day, I have the privilege of seeing something quite extraordinary.
It isn’t always the big moments that stand out. More often, it’s the quiet acts of kindness that happen in homes across our community every single day.
It’s the care worker who notices someone isn’t quite themselves and takes a little extra time to chat. The Registered Nurse who provides reassurance after a hospital stay. The Allied Health professional helping someone regain confidence after a fall. The volunteer who brightens someone’s week with conversation and companionship. The administration and support teams working behind the scenes to ensure every visit happens seamlessly.
These moments may seem small, but together they change lives.
As Chief Executive Officer of Southcare, I know that our people are our greatest strength. We often refer to our team as our “caring hands” because they do so much more than deliver services. They build relationships, earn trust and help older people continue living safely, independently and with dignity in the place they love most – their home.
Working in aged care is far more than a job.
It calls for compassion, patience, empathy and professionalism. It means celebrating life’s milestones alongside participants and their families, providing reassurance during uncertain times, and being there when someone simply needs a friendly face or a listening ear.
Our team doesn’t just support individuals; they become part of the lives of the people they care for.
This Aged Care Employee Day, I invite our entire community to join me in recognising the remarkable people who make this possible.
If you’ve ever benefited from the support of an aged care worker, or if someone has helped a parent, grandparent, neighbour or friend remain independent at home, please take a moment to say thank you.
Perhaps it’s the care worker who helps your mum or dad start the day.
The nurse who checks in after a hospital stay.
The Care Partner who takes the time to understand changing needs.
The volunteer whose smile makes you smile when you see them.
Or one of the many people working behind the scenes to make every service possible.
A simple “thank you” may only take a few seconds to say, but it can mean the world to the person receiving it. It reminds them that their kindness, dedication and commitment are seen, valued and appreciated.
If someone from Southcare has made a positive difference in your life or the life of someone you love, we’d be honoured if you shared your story.

Your words of gratitude may be exactly what someone needs to hear. They remind our team why they chose a career in caring and reinforce the importance of the work they do every day.
To every member of the Southcare team – our Care Workers, Registered Nurses, Allied Health professionals, volunteers, Care Partners, business support and administration teams – thank you.
Thank you for your compassion. Thank you for your professionalism. Thank you for your commitment to helping people live well at home. Thank you for helping us deliver Care of the Future.
Today, and every day, we celebrate you.
