Southcare Star Harold is no stranger to medical appointments, especially when it comes to his feet. About 10 years ago, he experienced foot drop and while he can still walk, it is difficult for him to fully lift his feet. 

“Mobility is my biggest issue. I have a walker and use my Cabcharge card to get around, but going to appointments for check-ups can be a frustrating process,” Harold said. 

“Between the long waits at clinics, the struggle of getting in and out of the car, and sitting around other unwell people, I often felt exhausted before my treatment had even begun.” 

Now, every week, Harold waits comfortably in his favourite chair at home — often with his large Ragdoll cat, Chloe, perched on his chest — for one of Southcare’s Registered Nurses to arrive. 

The weekly visits have become more than just an appointment. They are part of his routine and something he genuinely looks forward to. In the comfort of his own home, Harold feels relaxed, at ease and able to focus on healing. 

“The best part is I don’t have to leave my house,” Harold said with a smile.

“Nurse Amanda comes right to me, on time, and I can stay comfortable the whole time.” 

Southcare’s nurses have been visiting Harold over the past few weeks, and he says the care has made all the difference. 

His feet are healing faster, and he believes being at home has played a big part in that progress. 

“I think you heal better when you’re relaxed,” he explained. “I’m not stressed about getting to appointments or waiting around. I can just put my feet up afterwards and rest properly.” 

“My nurse is now familiar with my overall health and routine, often noticing small changes before they become bigger concerns. That continuity of care has given me extra confidence and reassurance.” 

Southcare supports Harold in other ways too, with meals, transport and a weekly shopping service in line with his assessed and approved care needs.
