Packing up nearly 30 years of memories and moving 168 kilometres to a home half the size would be overwhelming for anyone. For Southcare Star Beryl and her husband Jim, it was exactly the change they needed to begin a new chapter.

“My husband will be 82 this year and has never lived anywhere other than the South West,” Beryl says. “And for me, I’ve been away for 28 years, and amazed at how so much has changed — but we’re enjoying being back in Perth and are now thankfully settled.”

The couple made the move from their long-time family home in Bunbury to Manning so they could be closer to major hospitals and specialist services. Beryl, who is legally blind and currently receiving cancer treatment, needs regular medical appointments without the burden of long-distance travel.

While she had been receiving in-home support in Bunbury, relocating meant finding a new provider — a task that initially felt daunting.

“In Bunbury, finding care was relatively easy because the community is smaller,” Beryl explains. “In Perth there are so many providers and so many names. That dreaded feeling of overwhelm crept back in.”

Rather than navigating the options alone, Beryl turned to trusted friends who had made a similar move years earlier. Their recommendation was clear: contact Southcare.
