Southcare Hero John Dodman OAM receives Medal of the Order of Australia
Southcare is proud to recognise and congratulate former Board Chair and Board Member, John Dodman, on being awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in the 2026 Australia Day Honours List.
John has been recognised for his extensive and selfless service to the Western Australian community, a fitting acknowledgement of a lifetime defined by leadership, generosity and a deep commitment to helping others.
John served on the Southcare Board from 2011 to 2021, including as Chair from 2015 to 2021, where his thoughtful, steady and values-driven leadership helped guide the organisation through a period of growth and change.
Southcare CEO Enda Fahy said John’s legacy is one of lasting impact.
“John played an important role in guiding Southcare through growth and change, while ensuring we remained focused on delivering compassionate, high-quality support to the community,” Enda said.
“We call all of our valued volunteers ‘Southcare Heroes’, and in John’s case, the title is especially fitting. We are delighted to celebrate him and this incredible honour.”
Beyond his formal leadership roles, John is widely respected for his genuine care for people and his unwavering commitment to community wellbeing.
After a successful 37-year career in banking and finance, he has devoted his time to strengthening the not-for-profit sector and supporting others to thrive.
John’s recognition with an OAM reflects not only his contribution to Southcare, but also his broader impact across Western Australia.
His ability to bring people together, combined with his integrity and considered approach, has left a lasting legacy on the communities he has served.
In addition to his contribution to Southcare, John has demonstrated a deep and ongoing commitment to service through his involvement with the Rotary Club of Como. A member since 2003 and former President, he continues to lead and contribute in meaningful ways.
He also co-founded the John Curtin Leadership Academy and has served on numerous boards and committees dedicated to empowering others and strengthening the community.
In 2020, John was recognised with Southcare’s Helen Moore Leadership and Service Award, further testament to his enduring impact.
