Today marks an important milestone in Australia’s aged care journey, as we officially welcome the new Support at Home program and Aged Care Act. This reform represents one of the biggest changes to the aged care system in decades – and one that puts people, choice and independence at the very centre.

At Southcare, we’ve always believed that older Australians deserve to live well, safely and confidently in their own homes. That’s why the arrival of Support at Home is such a positive step forward. It streamlines the previous systems – including Home Care Packages – into one simplified program designed to make accessing support easier and more flexible.

For our participants, this means more clarity, consistency and control over the services they receive. Whether it’s help with clinical care, independence or every day living, the focus will now be on ensuring every service truly meets each person’s needs and goals.

For our team, it’s a continued opportunity to do what we do best – provide care with compassion, quality and respect. Southcare has been preparing for this change for many years and I’m proud to see our participants, people and processes are ready.

Support at Home is more than just a reform – it’s a reimagining of how aged care is delivered in our communities. It’s about giving older Australians the dignity of choice, the confidence of good support, and the comfort of home.

As we move forward, Southcare will continue to work closely with our participants, families, carers and partners to make this new system a success.  And while the framework around us has changed, our purpose and values remain the same: quality, respect, integrity, cooperation and empathy.

I recognise change is never without its challenges, but it also brings new opportunities to do better – and that’s something we wholeheartedly embrace.
